What is an urban ninja?
Some would define an urban ninja as someone taking ninja martial arts classes. In my definition a ninja is someone mastering running, climbing, some martial arts, and basic magic and computer skills. I believe a ninja should avoid fighting if possible; hence it might be just as efficient to practice kickboxing.
Ruining? But I am a ninja: I want to fight!!
Ninjas were not as great as fighting as honourable warrior classes as samurais. Ninjas often won by reaching objective which were important for their battle. Spying and diversions/illusions were often ways to reach this. It is also best to avoid direct confrontation if it is possible, so running is a good solution. There is no point to get killed or beaten up if you can run away from a battle, and choosing your own strategy for winning your objectives. You will never be strong or good enough to win every battle (and you would be wasting time and energy). You can easily run parkour or free running have to have more challenges and fun while running
Ok, I get you, but I still want to know some martial arts. What should I practice?
You can easily attend a ninja class close to you if you want to know some martial arts. If not you can try krav maga or kick boxing. You should choose to learn self defence; and efficient fighting. You can continue learning karate or similar sports if you already have started it. In my opinion a beginner will spend too much time learning style instead of learning efficient self defence right away. That said; any martial arts can do, as long as you learn self defence. You only need to know
Magic? Why would I need to know this magic or illusions?
By understanding magic you will be able to create distraction to obtain your objective. I am not suggesting you become a great magician. But it might be helpful to know some card or coin magic to master some simple sleight of hands techniques. It will also help you to understand basic psychology of creating a performance or distraction.
Computers too? Are you crazy?
Well, yes and no. I might be nerdy, but the truth is that most information these days are found on computers, and you store most of your files on computer. Ninjas were experts at spying and gathering information. So yes; you should know how to find information on internet, and you should know basic computer security.
Like what kind of security?
My computer is at home, and secured from everyone. The truth is that most of us are connected to internet, and we should know how to have our computer secured. Understanding how to keep all software up to date, firewall, antivirus and anti spyware is important. It might also be wise to know how to secure your files by encrypting files or hard drive partitions.
